In honor of the 10th year, HIV Plus honored their 10 most-admired leaders in the September 1st issue.

The Executive Director of Hope's Voice International, Todd Murray, is featured on the cover of the issue and honored as one of the 10 most-admired leaders.

"I am deeply honored to be recognized as a leader with these incredible individuals that have made significant contributions in the HIV and AIDS epidemic. I share this honor with the ambassadors and speakers of Hope's Voice International that have committed their lives to end the stigma for all those living with HIV or AIDS. World AIDS Day Programs Book Fast!

Three Schools have already confirmed speakers for their World AIDS Day programming this fall. On December 1, 2008 Kevin Fletcher will speak at Anne Arundel Community College and Josh Lunior and Christina Rock will share their stories at Alvernia College and Jeremiah Vialpando will present at Adams State College on December 2. SUNY Oswego is in the mist of selecting speakers for their December 1, 2008.

Front Porch Media Group President Molly Boyle requested an interview with the Hope's Voice International staff for a documentary that Zambian National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) is producing. Of course we said yes! The fantastic crew from Zambia ventured to the new Hope's Voice International office in Astoria. The crew took the time to sit and interview Todd Murray and John Amaturo about their personal experience living positive and how it has inspired them to do the work they do. They then took comments from Lindsey Etheridge, Beth Schmidt and Dan Sky about how they have been affected by HIV and AIDS and their work at Hope's Voice International. The interviewer asked compelling questions and had a strong respect for the work we all do. They even gifted us with African jewelry.

The Hope’s Voice speakers for the 2007–08 school year came across the United States to attend the annual Hope’s Voice training from July 13–15, 2007 in New York City. The weekend was an opportunity for the speakers to come together to be educated, enlighten and rejuvenated.

Each Hope’s Voice speaker is a leader in the community and this crucial weekend helps them build their skills as a Hope’s Voice speaker and as an advocate. The speakers brainstormed on their and Hope’s Voice role in the world of HIV and AIDS.

Hope's Voice Executive Director Todd Murray attended the St. George's House leadership Initiative on HIV and AIDS held in Windsor Castle, England June 22-24, 2007.

The meeting was attended by 26 emerging leaders from Africa, Europe and North America. The weekend was supported by the World Health Organization, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Culture Organization and the UN Secretariat. The focus of the meeting was on sustainable and active leadership in the area of prevention by challenging stigma and discrimination.

Todd unveiled the DOES HIV LOOK LIKE ME? video campaign at the meeting. It was an eye-opening look at the prevention activities happening around the world. Todd will head back to Windsor Castle in December for the second half of the summit.

Hope's Voice is thrilled to announce the launch of the DOES HIV LOOK LIKE ME? campaign website. The user-generated interactive website features videos from campaign spokesmodels, young adults living with HIV or AIDS, from around the world.

Each month the DOES HIV LOOK LIKE ME? campaign website will debut a trailer which will introduce you to 10 new spokesmodels and feature a hot topic question and answers. The videos are personal diaries of their struggles, dreams and accomplishments as young people living positive. You can email the spokesmodels your questions and comments. Franklin Pierce College made HIV education a priority by bringing Executive Director, Todd Murray to their campus. The evening began with an Italian dinner with the students. Nina Martinez traveled to the gateway to the west for a Hope's Voice program at St. Louis University. The event was sponsored by the Keep a Child Alive chapter on the campus. The chapter raises money for life saving medications for children in Africa. Thank you to Quan and the rest of the Keep a Child Alive members for making the topic of HIV and AIDS a priority on the campus! "Her frankness was great," Lara Brandstetter, a freshman, said, "Her willingness to tell her story really causes me to look at the HIV and AIDS issue in a whole different way. The amazing and moving event included a spoken word, dance performance, candlelight vigil and Todd speaking to the students on the lawn of the campus. The emotional candlelight vigil was to honor those who have passed on, to commit to educating in the future on HIV and AIDS and to remember the students killed in the Virginia Tech tragedy. The Hope’s Voice website has a new look and feel. Under the artistic direction of Marco Tawil, Art Director for Hope’s Voice, the organization has updated all our materials to be eye catching, young and fashion forward. We know that these elements are bringing the attention to HIV and AIDS to young people.

“We recognize that young people are living in a fast paced world and to get their time and attention we use approaches that young people can relate to,” says Todd. Check out the new website!

Hope’s Voice Executive Director Todd Murray and speaker Christina Rock attended the Y-PEER Global Advisory Board Meeting in New York, December 8 – 12, 2006 at the Mohonk Mountain House. The meeting brought together members of the Y-PEER network, youth from 20 countries, for a unique opportunity of exchanging perspectives and providing recommendations for future UNFPA-DASECA programming within the area of youth and HIV and AIDS. Hope’s Voice learned about the challenges and brainstormed prevention ideas with positive approaches in the 20 countries. The Road to Hope produced by Hope’s Voice won the best documentary in long form at 2006 New York AIDS Film Festival it was announced December 3, 2006. The festival included the Red Ball Gala, screening and awards ceremony, all of which were attended by Executive Director, Todd Murray. “Road to Hope is exactly the kind of film that made me start this festival. Its edutainment . . . education plus entertainment. Todd Murray has the guts and the commitment it takes to make this a disease of the past. My hat and my heart are off to him,” said Suzanne Engo, President of the New York AIDS Film Festival.

The Does HIV Look Like Me? campaign and speaker Nina Martinez are featured in the Toronto edition of Global 21. The story talks about the campaign and Nina’s experience at the International AIDS Conference in Toronto this past summer. Global21, formerly known as The Globalist Foundation, is a network of student-run international-affairs magazines at premier universities around the globe. The network consists of nine chapters at Yale University, Peking University, University of Cambridge, University of Sydney, University of Toronto, University of Cape Town, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, St. Stephen's University in New Delhi, Bogazici University in Istanbul, and Sciences Po of Paris.

What started as a PSA campaign of 25 stories for the 25 years of AIDS turned into a project to help local TV channels customize their own stories in the fight against AIDS and HIV. Cable Positive is joining forces with Time Warner Cable's NY1 News to raise HIV and AIDS awareness through a new campaign called 25 Stories for 25 Years of AIDS. Hope’s Voice Executive Director Todd Murray participated in the public service announcements which he shares his personal story of his own fight against HIV and AIDS. Todd will be speaking at and attending the premier of the public service announcements with Cable Positive at their World AIDS Day Breakfast, hosted by Bloomberg on December 1, 2006. June 23, 2005 - Hope's Voice speaker, Marvelyn, will be featured on My Thing on BET on Sunday, June 26, 2005 at 3pm ET. My Thing provides answers to frequently asked questions about HIV and AIDS testing and will feature discussions with celebrities and experts. The program features interviews with Mo'Nique who talks about losing her best friend to AIDS, Easy E's son Lil' E who speaks for the first time on television about his father's death and is hosted by new sensation and BET Award nominee Ciara and Rap City host Mad Linx. The show travels across the country speaking to young people about their experience with HIV testing, tests their knowledge of HIV and AIDS and highlights many of their efforts to prevent the spread of the disease. Cities visited include Chicago, Detroit, Nashville, LA, Langston, OK (home of this season's College Hill), New York and Baltimore. Check your local listings and watch the program!

June 20, 2005 - Hope's Voice has put together the Road to Hope Tour Survey. In order for us to make the most of this year and make changes to improve tour stops in the future, it is crucial that we receive as many back as possible. The survey is for everyone who attended a tour stop with a few questions being specifically for tour leaders. So please pass on the website to those that you know who attended the event and take a moment to complete the survey.

May 1, 2005 - The Road to Hope Tour is proud to work with HIV/AIDS testing organizations in conjunction with tour stops. Night Ministry did HIV tests at University of Chicago at Illinois, DePaul University and University of Chicago. They did a total of 62 tests!

The tour has appeared in media around the country including, Brown & White, The Oberlin Review, Belmont Vision, Marquette Tribne,The Depaulina, and The U-Wire.

April 9, 2005 - Hope’s Voice is thrilled to announce a partnership with Student Partnerships Worldwide. SPW is an international development charity working in Africa and Asia. Through community and school-based programs this organization works to empower young people, to help them get involved in the decisions that shape their future. Althea Trevor spent six months in deprived rural communities in the Iringa region of Tanzania where she taught at the local primary school and nearby schools, hosted seminars for the community at large, working especially with village young people in areas of rural development, especially health issues with a focus on HIV and AIDS. Althea joins the Road to Hope Tour at University of Chicago, DePaul University and University of Illinois at Chicago to share her experiences working with HIV and AIDS on an international level. Cuban-American artist, Xavier Cortada, joins the Road to Hope Tour to create the Student Voices on AIDS Mural. He will create a national mural using messages written from students at each tour stop. Messages for the Road to Hope Tour mural are also being collected via the internet and will be printed and added to the mural. Cortada has exhibited his works in museums, galleries, and cultural venues around the world and has traveled to four continents to create pro-social community murals and participant-driven art projects. We are thrilled to announce that Leslie Marie Cannon has joined Hope’s Voice as our Media Director. Leslie Marie will be filming the documentary “Road to Hope.” The documentary will give an in-depth look at the process of an up-and-coming HIV and AIDS organization, behind the scenes of the Road to Hope Tour, and a chance to meet the students and speakers! Hope’s Voice is thrilled to announce that we have kicked off the Road to Hope Tour 2005! The first stop on the tour was in Washington, DC this past weekend at the Student March and Rally! Over 4,000 students marched from the White House to Capital Hill calling for attention to the HIV and AIDS epidemic. Todd Murray, Executive Director of Hope’s Voice spoke at the rally! The march was second largest in ten years for HIV and AIDS. Check out the pictures from the rally and march.
