April 9, 2005 - Hope’s Voice is thrilled to announce a partnership with Student Partnerships Worldwide. SPW is an international development charity working in Africa and Asia. Through community and school-based programs this organization works to empower young people, to help them get involved in the decisions that shape their future. Althea Trevor spent six months in deprived rural communities in the Iringa region of Tanzania where she taught at the local primary school and nearby schools, hosted seminars for the community at large, working especially with village young people in areas of rural development, especially health issues with a focus on HIV and AIDS. Althea joins the Road to Hope Tour at University of Chicago, DePaul University and University of Illinois at Chicago to share her experiences working with HIV and AIDS on an international level. Cuban-American artist, Xavier Cortada, joins the Road to Hope Tour to create the Student Voices on AIDS Mural. He will create a national mural using messages written from students at each tour stop. Messages for the Road to Hope Tour mural are also being collected via the internet and will be printed and added to the mural. Cortada has exhibited his works in museums, galleries, and cultural venues around the world and has traveled to four continents to create pro-social community murals and participant-driven art projects. We are thrilled to announce that Leslie Marie Cannon has joined Hope’s Voice as our Media Director. Leslie Marie will be filming the documentary “Road to Hope.” The documentary will give an in-depth look at the process of an up-and-coming HIV and AIDS organization, behind the scenes of the Road to Hope Tour, and a chance to meet the students and speakers! Leslie Marie is responsible for the direction of broadcast and media projects. Hope’s Voice will be putting together public service announcements for our Does HIV Look Like Me? campaign. Hope’s Voice is thrilled to announce that we have kicked off the Road to Hope Tour 2005! The first stop on the tour was in Washington, DC this past weekend at the Student March and Rally! Over 4,000 students marched from the White House to Capital Hill calling for attention to the HIV and AIDS epidemic. Todd Murray, Executive Director of Hope’s Voice spoke at the rally! The march was second largest in ten years for HIV and AIDS. Check out the pictures from the rally and march.
